Democrats supporting Joe Biden raised new questions, on Tuesday, about his bid to win a new term in the US presidential elections this year, and one of them even called on him to step down after many defended him following his poor performance in last week’s debate.

White House officials said that Biden will hold a meeting with Democratic state governors on Wednesday at the White House and will speak to lawmakers this week after an unpopular debate with Republican candidate Donald Trump.
The meeting provides an opportunity for the president to reassure his party's leaders that he is of sound mind and body, despite the debate that sparked demands for him to step down from the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.
One of the officials said that Biden will also meet with congressional leaders this week as part of his effort to rally the support of party supporters and quell talk about the need for him to step down.
A Democratic source in the House of Representatives said that 25 Democratic members of the House are preparing to call on Biden to step down if he appears shaken in the coming days.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted after the debate stated that one in three Democrats believe that Biden should withdraw from the candidacy.
US Representative Lloyd Doggett became the first Democratic member of Congress to call on Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, on Tuesday.
The meetings are part of a broad effort to support the bid to elect the president for a new term after his faltering and stuttering performance in the debate in Atlanta.
Biden's team held difficult phone calls on Sunday and Monday with prominent campaign financiers who questioned whether the 81-year-old Democratic candidate should remain in the presidential race.
In an interview with MSNBC, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, on Tuesday, emphasized Biden's many legislative achievements, but she said that it is legitimate to ask a question whether his performance in the debate was fleeting or indicative of a health problem. Broader, she said that Trump should be subject to the same scrutiny.
“I think it's legitimate to say, ‘Is this an accident or is it the case?’ And then, when people ask that question, it's legitimate for both candidates,” Pelosi said.
When asked during an interview with CBS News about Representative Doggett’s request, Vice President Kamla Harris said: “Joe Biden is our candidate. We defeated Trump once, and we will defeat him.”
Biden talks about "lack of sleep"
In a speech during a campaign rally in Virginia on Tuesday evening, Biden blamed his performance during the debate on lack of sleep and said that the campaign had raised $38 million since the day of the debate.
The US President said: “The truth is that I was not careful. I decided to travel around the world several times, passing through about 100 time zones before the debate. I did not listen to my staff and came back and almost fell asleep during the debate.”
He added: "This is not an excuse. It is an explanation."
Democratic Rep. Mike Quigley, a moderate from Illinois, told CNN: “He has to be honest with himself. It's his decision. I just want him to appreciate at this time how much this affects not only his race, but his All other races coming up in November.”
