The mayor of a French town, Daniel Marrière, has directed his clergy to initiate “highest priority communications with heaven” to help end an unusual wave of wet weather sweeping his village.
According to Agence France-Presse, the head of the small village of Colonnes in the French region of Normandy, who was angry at the heavy rains in the summer, issued an order for the sun to rise.
On Wednesday, Marière told Agence France-Presse, “I have never witnessed weather like this before” in July.
He added, "Yesterday morning, it was raining, the sky was gray, and visibility was bad. I needed to turn on the lights inside the house."
On Tuesday, the head of the village, which has 227 residents, issued an order stating, “According to this order... in the months of August and September, and why not in October, the rain must stop and be replaced by bright sun and a light breeze.”
"Diocese priests throughout northern France must contribute through the highest priority communication with Heaven, and will therefore be responsible for implementing this rule," he continued.
The French Meteorological Service said last week that rain fell in June at a rate of 20 percent more than usual during the period from 1991 to 2020, with rain falling twice as much as usual in some areas.
