Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Dr. Mathal Al-Huwaila, said that winning the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) award by Kuwaiti engineer Sarah Burjib, to be the first Arab person to win this global award since its launch two years ago, is considered a distinguished Kuwaiti youth achievement.
In a statement to reporters after honoring engineer Bourgib on Monday, Minister Al-Huwaila praised the great win of this global award that supports innovation and creativity among the nine prizes of the award as a whole, after competition from about 667 inventors from 107 countries around the world.
She added that the inventor Bourjib's achievement of this victory is evidence of the excellence of Kuwaiti youth in the scientific and technological fields, noting the importance of her invention related to diagnosing brain injuries, which constitutes an important societal addition in the health field.
She stated that Kuwaiti youth, under the directives of the political leadership, receive all the attention and care from state institutions, especially the Public Authority for Youth, in order to encourage them to be creative, innovative and pioneering, congratulating Engineer Bourjib on receiving this high award.
For her part, Bourjib, in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), appreciated this honor from Minister Al-Huwaila, stressing that it is evidence of the interest of the political leadership and the state in general in the youth sector to encourage and push them to achieve more achievements and raise the name and status of Kuwait high.
Bourjib said that this honor constitutes a great impetus for her on a personal level to complete her research and work to achieve more in this field, stressing her endeavor to leave a mark in the name of Kuwait and her pride in this achievement.
She added that her invention is concerned with diagnosing brain injuries quickly and directly, which saves effort and time for the medical staff, in addition to accurately determining the location of strokes or internal bleeding using a non-surgical method to quickly save the lives of others.
Bourgib had won one of the nine global WIPO awards presented by the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, for a device concerned with the field of early detection of tumors and cerebral hemorrhage using frequency light technology and integrating it with artificial intelligence.
It is noteworthy that the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is the United Nations agency that serves innovators and creators around the world, ensuring that their ideas move safely to the market and improving the lives of people everywhere.
