British Ambassador to Kuwait Belinda Lewis praised the courage and resilience of the Kuwaiti people, "who faced enormous challenges with unwavering strength", and their sacrifices and persevering spirit during the ordeal of the brutal Iraqi invasion, the painful 34th anniversary of which falls tomorrow, Friday.
Ambassador Lewis told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Thursday, on the occasion of the anniversary of the brutal Iraqi invasion, that the United Kingdom's commitment "remains as strong as it was 34 years ago" and its standing and solidarity with the State of Kuwait, recalling in this regard the shared history and solid partnership over the years between the two friendly countries.
She also recalled the sacrifices made by the international coalition forces to liberate Kuwait, "including British soldiers who played a crucial role in the liberation." She pointed out that her country and Kuwait enjoy a long-standing defense relationship that has developed over several decades based on mutual respect, shared values and commitment to peace and stability in the region.
Lewis stated that cooperation and partnerships between the two countries are reflected through defense agreements, military training and joint education to enhance and strengthen our defense capabilities.
She pointed out that this year represents "another milestone in our deep historical relations as we celebrate 125 years of Kuwaiti-British relations, looking forward to working together for many more years as we face challenges and enjoy the opportunities ahead in the future."
