China accuses NATO of "inciting confrontation" over its relationship with Russia

On Thursday, Beijing called on NATO to stop “inciting confrontation,” in response to leaders of NATO member states expressing “deep concern” about close Chinese-Russian relations and accusing the Chinese of providing vital assistance to Russia in its military operation in Ukraine.

The Chinese mission to the European Union said in a statement, “NATO must stop exaggerating the so-called Chinese threat, stop inciting confrontation and competition, and contribute more to peace and stability in the world.”

In its statement, China expressed its "strong dissatisfaction" and denounced the statement issued by NATO leaders, which was "infused with a Cold War mentality and hostile rhetoric" and "full of slander," according to Agence France-Presse.

China has long called for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, pledged not to supply weapons to Moscow, and stressed its commitment to respecting the territorial integrity of all countries - including Ukraine.

But Beijing has never condemned the “Russian special military operation in Ukraine,” according to the Russian name for the war in Ukraine.

In its statement, the Chinese mission stressed that “we have never provided lethal weapons to either side of the conflict and we exercise strict control over exports of dual-use products, including civilian drones.”

The statement continued, "The Ukrainian crisis has been going on for a long time. Who is adding fuel to the fire? Who is fueling the flames? Who is trying to benefit from it? The answer is clear to everyone."

Beijing did not name who it accuses, but it most likely means the West, especially the United States, which supplies Ukraine with weapons.
