Ahmed Douma in brief
He is a young Egyptian poet and one of the most prominent activists who participated in the peaceful protests that toppled the regime of former President Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
He was repeatedly arrested by Egyptian authorities, under different governments, and subjected to prolonged periods of arbitrary detention for exercising the right to freedom of expression.
During his long years of imprisonment, Ahmed Douma devoted himself to writing his experiences, aspirations, and dreams in a number of poems, including the collection “Your Voice Is Coming Out” published by Dawn Publishing House in 2012, in which he shared his revolutionary poems that talk about the periods in which he joined the protest movements before the January Revolution. In this collection, Douma recorded poems that included the dates and places of his arrest.
