UNESCO launches the new "Cinema Heritage" festival in France

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is launching a new film festival under the title “Cinema Heritage” in the French capital, Paris, during the period from November 28 to December 2.

Nine films are scheduled to compete in the inaugural edition: “The Winter Within” by Indian director Amer Bashir, “The Echo” by Mexican director Tatiana Huezo, “Behind the Haystacks” by Greek Asimina Proidro, and “The Promised Land.” “The Promised Land” by Danish Nikolai Arcel, according to deadline newspaper.


Also participating in the new festival are Lubo by Giorgio Direti, The Land Where Winds Stood Still by Ardak Amirkulov, This Is What I Remember by Aktan Erem Kubat, and Riceboy Sleeps. By Anthony Shim.


Co-organized by Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, and producer Kuban Toychubayev, the new cinematic event aims to preserve world cinematic heritage in line with the values ​​supported by UNESCO.


The festival schedule also includes National Cinema and Heritage Day sidebars, highlighting works that are part of the world's cinematic heritage, including Honey by Turkish director Semih Kaplanoglu, Osama by Afghan director Siddiq Barmak, and Cold as Marble. “By Azerbaijani Asif Rustamov, and Dark Forest” by Chinese director Cui Zhi.


French-Greek director Costa Gavras, Romanian Cristian Mungiu and Chinese Zhang Yimou are scheduled to receive lifetime achievement awards at the festival's closing ceremony.
