Taylor Swift to light up Wembley after Vienna concerts canceled

American singer Taylor Swift performed a night of music in London on Thursday evening after three of her concerts in the Austrian capital Vienna were canceled over fears of a terrorist plot by the Islamic State group.

Taylor returned to London for her historic "Erase Tour" concert tour with British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, according to the Associated Press.

Swift has had a difficult few weeks, especially after the deaths of three girls in Southport, northern England, who were killed by an attacker during a dance class to Swift's songs.

Fears have been raised again after a plot to attack her concert venue in Austria was foiled, with police arresting three extremists who support the Islamic State group.

Shows scheduled for August in Vienna were canceled, making Thursday's Wembley concert the return of the "Erase Tour" to the stage.

Taylor Swift still has four more Wembley concerts left, a record-breaking time in one venue, before she completes the European leg of her Eraz Tour, then resumes the tour in Toronto in November.

The tour generated more than $1 billion in ticket sales last year, according to live concert data site Pollstar.

The tour is expected to push that record to more than $2 billion before it wraps up later this year in Indianapolis.

Austria's interior ministry said Friday that authorities had arrested a third suspect in Vienna in connection with a plot to attack pop star Taylor Swift's concert in the Austrian capital.

The ministry said the third suspect, an 18-year-old Iraqi, is believed to be in the same circle as the main suspect, a 19-year-old Austrian originally from North Macedonia.

More suspects will be questioned and properties searched as the investigation into the plot continues.

The suspect, who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group, was planning to carry out an attack that would have killed an estimated 20,000 Taylor Swift fans who were due to gather outside Vienna's Ernst Happel Arena.

All of the American pop star's concerts in Vienna, scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, were cancelled late Wednesday due to security concerns.

Two other Austrians, aged 17 and 15, were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the planned attack.

The younger boy, aged 15, has been released and is being treated as a witness, the Kurier newspaper reported on Friday.

The newspaper said the Iraqi suspect pledged allegiance to Islamic State on August 6, but it was not immediately clear whether he had any connection to the planned attack.

Austrian authorities reportedly received information from US intelligence about the threat to Swift's concert, as Austrian law does not allow monitoring of the messaging apps the suspects used to communicate.
